YOU ARE JUDGED BY HOW YOU SPEAK!

Consider how often we judge an individual based on how she/he speaks. Was the speaker self confident and clear in thought? Could you understand everything she/he said? Did the speaker leave you with the feeling that you could trust the information she/he imparted? Or, did the speaker give the impression of being unclear and jumbled? Did their body language and voice betray a sense of being ill at ease? Did their non-confidence and lack of clarity make you have doubts about their ability or the validity of the information imparted? Did you hear them and understand them easily? Were you uncomfortable in their presence?

The speaking voice tells others who we are, how competent we are in a given situation and how we view the people we are speaking to. Ben Jonson said, "Speak that I may see thee!" In professional life, you need to instill confidence and trust when you speak. People want to get the feeling they are dealing with a confident source of trustworthy knowledge.

With a little bit of conscious thought and work with the voice, you can present yourself consistently in a professional manner.
